This Weeks Reading

I read:
2 1/2 hours
Pages 1-112

This week, I started reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I had always thought that the movies were exactly like the book, without a detail missing, until I started reading it. So far, Harry has gone from a home where he isn't appreciated at all, to a place where everyone knows his name. Before Harry got a letter from Hogwarts, he was pretty much a slave to his aunt, uncle and cousin. He cooked for them, cleaned for them, and did basically whatever they asked him too. They definitely took advantage of him. Harry pretty soon learned that there was life beyond the cupboard. When he first found out he was a wizard, he wasn't sure what to think. Going to Hogwarts, was one of the best things that ever happened to him. There is so much that the movie left out of the book. For example, in the book, right before Harry leaves to school, he is told to stay at the Dursleys. The day before he had to leave, he asked his Uncle Vernon for a ride to the station. It was then that he told them about nine and three quarters. They looked at him like he was crazy. They took him to the train station and dropped him off at platfrom nine and platform ten. Leaving him there alone to figure out what in the world he was doing. So far, I am liking the book. There are a lot of parts that follow the movie. But then there are some that are nothing like it. It helps to know the background behind everything!
